School of Economics and Management (SEM), Beijing University of Posts &
Telecommunications (BUPT), was founded in 1955 when BUPT was established,
whose original name was department of Engineering Economics. In 1980, its
name was changed into Department of Management Engineering (DME). School
of Management and Humanity was set up in 1997 with DME as the main part
of it. Along with the rapid development and deep reform in Chinese telecommunications
sectors and information industry, a large number of senior managerial personnel
are urgently needed in these fields. In order to meet with these requirements,
School of Economics and Management of BUPT was reorganized in 2000. It aims
at training a large number of entrepreneurs for the Information Industry
of China in the 21st century and promoting Chinese Information Industry
to catch up with and even exceed the world level.
Presently SEM of BUPT has the a series of undergraduate and postgraduate
majors, such as Management Science and Engineering, Economics, Information
Management and Information System, Engineering Management, Business Administration,
Marketing, Industrial Economics, Enterprises Management etc. SEM can grant
degrees in bachelor, master, MBA, EMBA and doctor. In addition, it has one
post-doctorate research station in Management Science and Engineering. Now
there are totally over 1,000 students studying in the school and an abundant
teaching team to support teaching and research. The faculty includes 4 doctoral
supervisors, 12 professors and 18 associate professors.
In the field of scientific research, SEM has obtained great achievements
in the aspects of managerial theory and communications economy, information
economics, communications network system control and optimization, information
system and decision support system of communications enterprises, communications
operation theory and application, research of communications policies and
regulations etc. In recent years, it has received a large number of researching
projects from the State, Ministry of Information Industry (MII), domestic
and foreign telecommunications & information & posts enterprises.
At the same time, SEM has set up Management Modernization Research Institution,
E-Commerce Research Center, Posts Development Research Center and Information
Laws Research Center. And Policy and Development Research Institution and
Large-scale Imitation Center are under preparation now.
