An Introduction to School of Information Engineering


As one of the specialized schools that represent the characters of BUPT,
School of Information Engineering (abbreviated hereafter as SIE) devotes herself to the entire field of information science and technology in both education and research. SIE offers three undergraduate programs£ºInformation Engineering, Information and Computing Science, and Automation. There are five Master degree programs: Signal and Information Processing, Cryptograph Theory, Pattern Recognition and Intelligent System, Control Theory and Engineering and Applied Mathematics Doctor degree programs are also available in the areas of Signal and Information Processing and Cryptograph Theory. SIE has strong research capabilities in Telecommunication Theory, Cryptograph Theory, Intelligence Theory, Networking and Switching Technology, Mobile Telecommunication, Pattern Recognition, Information Security, Image Processing and Tele-Education Technology etc. SIE successfully combines science and engineering, and balances education and research in a practical way. The research funds of SIE are always among the top ones of BUPT.

       SIE highly values educating and cultivating students. Many famous professors are in charge of teaching undergraduates. It was the first school in BUPT that employed the popular ¡°3+1¡± teaching mode (3 years of course study and 1 year of graduation project) for undergraduates with a view to strengthen their practical experience, independent learning capability and independent working capability. In this way, the policy of ¡°capability oriented education¡± has been well executed.

       To stimulate the student to study hard, Academician Jiong-Pan Zhou, the honorary dean, and other professors set up the ¡°Special Scholarship of School of Information Engineering¡± with their education and research bonus. That scholarship intends to encourage the excellent students in the school.

 Zheng-Ming Hu: Professor, adviser of Doctor degree candidates, standing member of ninth CPPCC, graduated from Tianjin Univ., visiting scholar of Boston Univ. USA, famous academician in the area of Cryptograph Theory and Matrix Theory.
