Abstract

A wireless communication network is usually designed to fit in the normal demand for daily operations, because of the cost and economic reasons for the operator. When a disruptive event happens, the demand to the communication network like emergency healthcare or safety related needs will increase tremendously, in the same time, part of the network infrastructure might be damaged already because of the disruptive event. Therefore, the current deployment of the wireless communication networks cannot accommodate the demands in critical state when a disruptive event happens for emergency situation. Consequently, comprehensive availability analysis are needed, and resilient recovering plans are desired for incident responses for the communities in emergency situation.  In this talk, we discuss the fundamental problems on wireless communication network resilient design, followed our new research activities on recovery and emergency responses for wireless communication networks. Case studies will be given to show a relay selection scheme to prolong connection time for wireless communication networks for emergency situation.
